Meet Our Team

My first word was probably boat and I have been addicted to being on the water ever since. This led me to a professional career as a shipwright, building and refitting custom yachts. I’ve also worked professionally as a rigger and boat refit manager. Years later and running Nick Cox is the perfect way for me to impart my knowledge on customers and team members alike (and it stops me from getting the shakes from boat withdrawal).

I have worked at Nick Cox for since 2017.
I have sailed my own moody 37 extensively in the English channel, channel islands, Normandy and Brittany. I have gained all the RYA sailing qualifications including yacht master so I am able to offer customers all manor of expertise for being out on the water.
Also, I just bought a campervan for further adventures! I am both land and sea lover!

I have worked for Nick Cox since 2018.
I have been involved in the boating world since I was a child as my dad is a rigger and has always owned boats which I have sailed over the years. Growing up around the sport and learning from the other members of the team, I have developed a great understanding of how to help our customers achieve their boating goals. I love the thrill of being out on the water and often take out speed boats like ribs and zap cats.

I joined the Nick Cox team in February 2020, working in the office.
I love working with the rest of the team and enjoy the pace of a chandlery store.
Previously my career included teaching lots of dinghy sailing and powerboating.  I’ve been fortunate enough to have enjoyed lots of yacht racing (RORC, ARC and regattas including Swan Worlds) and European and Caribbean cruising aboard a variety of yachts.

History of Nick Cox Yacht Chandlery

The Beginning

Nick Cox, a boatbuilder and sailor works as the Haven Master at Lymington Yacht Haven and establishes a small stores for the Haven boatyard customers.

Over 10 years Nick grows the stores. Needing to move into bigger premises Nick takes over two boat sheds and establishes Nick Cox Yacht Chandler on its current site.

Branching out

Looking to better serve the yachtsmen and local residents, Nick adds a small convenience store to the chandlery.

New Owners

After twenty years of successful ownership, Nick sells the business to Sue and David Evans, with son Matt a qualified shipwright at the helm and daughter-in-law Liz joining him five years later.

New shop opens

The chandlery moves into temporary accommodation while the boat sheds are demolished and a new modern purpose built building is put in their place. At the end of 2008 the business moves back into its larger new and improved premises.

Nick Cox Chandlery is based in Lymington – An idyllic town in the New Forest

The Georgian market town of Lymington is set on the coast in the beautiful New Forest National Park, between Southampton and Bournemouth. Famous for its sailing history, there are two large marinas filled with fishing boats and yachts, as well as two sailing clubs. Lymington Town Sailing Club and Royal Lymington Yacht Club are both north of Yacht Haven Harbour. There is plenty of berthing areas for all vessels up to 25m along the river, check your almanac for more information when visiting the area.

The town’s narrow streets are lined with pretty period cottages and houses, as well as plenty of local pubs and restaurants. Lymington High Street has several independent shops and designer boutiques, as well as a local market held each Saturday which dates back to the 13th century. At the bottom of the High Street, a cobbled road leads down to the Old Town Quay, which is still used by a number of commercial fishing boats. There is often a chance to buy fresh fish on the waterfront. From here you can take a stroll along the waters edge and soak up the atmosphere of this renowned sailing resort.

Lymington is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the New Forest, where opportunities for outdoor activities are abundant. The Solent Way footpath provides a great coastal walk with fantastic views of the Needles and the Isle of Wight. Located to the west of the town is Hurst Castle located on a shingle spit which stretches out into the Solent. This area is a significant coastal nature reserve, recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Lymington is home to 19th century open sea water baths, the oldest of its kind in the UK. These baths are popular with all ages throughout the summer months, and are an important part of the town’s history.

Located just outside of the town is the Wightlink ferry port, from which a car ferry travels to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. Be aware that the ferries will be passing each other between Crooked Lake and Pylewell lake. If you are visiting Lymington by boat here is some useful contacts so that you can come visit our beautiful town.
